THE SCIENCE.
The active ingredient used in anti-wrinkle injections is botulinum toxin type A - a purified neurotoxin that temporarily blocks the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for triggering muscle contraction.
By interrupting communication between the nerve ending and the muscle, the targeted muscle is able to relax. This reduces repetitive movement that contributes to the formation and deepening of expression lines over time.
Over time, the body naturally regenerates these nerve terminals and normal communication between the nerve and muscle gradually returns.
INDICATIONS.
Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly used across the upper face to address lines formed through facial expression. Treatment can also be used in other areas where muscle activity contributes to changes in contour or function.
THE TREATMENT.
Anti-wrinkle treatments are generally very well tolerated, with minimal disruption to your day.
Depending on the treatment area, a slight stinging sensation may be experienced briefly during treatment, however this is typically minimal and short-lived, with most maintenance appointments completed within 30 minutes.

WHAT TO EXPECT.

PRE-TREATMENT
Prior to your appointment, you will complete a medical history form to ensure treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
To help minimise bruising, avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment and limit caffeine on the day where possible.
If medically appropriate, blood-thinning medications and supplements should also be paused beforehand following advice from your GP.

POST-TREATMENT
Mild redness, swelling, or slight tenderness at the injection sites may occur immediately following treatment and typically settles quickly.
For the first four hours, avoid touching the treated areas and remain upright. Strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and excessive heat should also be avoided for 24 hours.
Makeup and active skincare should be avoided until the following day, with facials and facial massage postponed for two weeks.

RESULTS & LONGEVITY
Results develop gradually as muscle activity softens, with initial changes often noticeable within the first few days and full results typically visible at around two weeks.
Results typically last around three to four months, though longevity varies depending on factors such as metabolism, lifestyle, muscle activity, and treatment area. In the treatment of hyperhidrosis, results are often maintained for approximately four to six months before gradually returning.

RISKS & POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS .
Anti-wrinkle treatments are widely considered safe when performed by an experienced medical professional, however as with any injectable procedure, risks and possible side effects can occur.
Temporary redness, tenderness, bruising, or small injection-site bumps may occur following treatment and typically resolve quickly. Less commonly, headache, temporary heaviness, or mild asymmetry may occur.
